Message from the President of IISEC

Developing Human Resources into Information Security Professionals for a Trusted Future.

Since "Information" is the foundation that supports our comfortable lives, sustainable economic activities, and smooth social operations, the importance of "information security" that supports its sound use is increasing more than ever. In recent years, threats involving information have become more diverse and serious, such as targeted attacks targeting specific companies and organizations, sophisticated phishing scams, the spread of false information, leaks of confidential information, and even cyberattacks between nations. To confront these challenges and build a robust and reliable information environment, it is essential to develop highly specialized human resources, versed in both theory and practice, and that is a top priority issue for Japan and the entire international community.

IISEC was established in 2004 and has been engaged in education and research as a graduate school specializing in information security, with the founding principles of "systematize new academic fields" and "develop experts who tackle real-world problems." In addition to cryptography, networks, system technology, and organizational management, we have built an academic foundation for information security that we can be proud of by integrating diverse fields such as legal systems, ethics, and psychology related to information security. In addition to responding to rapidly changing social conditions and technological trends, we have repeatedly reviewed our education and research systems, and are pursuing human resource development that meets the needs of the real world.

So far IISEC has received grants from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for the for the following programs: the ISS Square (highly professional information security training program integrated with research and practical operations) and the enPiT (cross-cutting practical information education collaboration network), and has striven to enhance educational programs that cultivate both specialized knowledge and practical skills. In addition, we have built close ties with private companies and government agencies, and are working to strengthen our collaboration with industry and the local community through joint research and public workshops.

As of March 2024, IISEC has produced 584 master's course graduates and 54 doctoral course graduates, and they are currently playing key roles in information security in industry and government agencies. The human networks built by these graduates extend beyond the boundaries of fields and organizations, which is a tremendous contribution to improving the safety and reliability of society as a whole. The activities and collaboration of our alumni are surely the greatest achievements of our graduate school. As we advance, IISEC will continue to develop human resources with a global perspective and practical skills to contribute to building a resilient and highly reliable information society.
