Student Interviews

I am performing fundamental research to create a secure operating system that is also suitable for distributed processing, with a long-term perspective that only a graduate school can provide.

After graduating from university, I decided to study at a graduate school, as I was interested in fundamental research on computers

The field of basic computer research is one that I became interested in after graduating from university. I hesitated for a couple of years before I left the company I had created with my friends. Then I thought "if I don't do this, I would regret it for the rest of my life" and decided to enrol in the Master's course, first.

Developing an OS suitable for the future of network computing

My research focuses on more secure distributed operating systems. Distributed processing is an essential part of modern computing, as represented by the huge systems of interlinked computers such as Google. However, the mechanisms for making it easy and safe to use at the OS level are still underdeveloped. I would like to take up the challenge of proposing a future OS, through my research.

Based on the outlines drawn in the Master's course
We solve problems one by one in the PhD course

The outlines drawn in the master's course include: mutual identification of multiple computers, management of enormous resources, assurance of the integrity of exchanged data, protection against information leakage onto the network, security policies for each individual system, and managing the integrity of security policies across information systems. Based on these outlines, I am looking for a way to solve each problem one by one. My supervisor Professor Tanaka always kindly encourages me by saying, "Because it's a quite big theme, let's figure it out step by step." I would like to incorporate these features into existing OSs and research into applications that will benefit more people.
