eDiscovery is the key to winning or losing a civil case in the US. I am conducting a survey to find out how well Japanese companies are responding to this.

To acquire the necessary knowledge for forensic work.

I was responsible for business systems and digital forensics at work, and I considered enrolling at IISEC because I needed both the security expertise and a general IT education. Knowledge of IT, which has become an important part of the infrastructure of financial institutions, is emphasised by the FSA, and there is even a postgraduate education programme to train specialist personnel. Thanks to the programme, I am able to concentrate on my studies now. When I enrolled at IISEC and attended the lectures and exercises, I realised that information security is both a broad and specialised subject and I felt the need to learn information security comprehensively. Information security plays an important role in our society. It is strange that this is the only graduate school that offers a comprehensive study of this as an academic subject.

Managing electronic documents that play an important role in corporate litigation

I have joined Prof. Harada's research lab and my experience in digital forensics led me to research e-discovery. In the discovery procedure that is important in American civil proceedings, the disclosure of electronic data related to the proceedings by the plaintiff and the defendant is called e-discovery. eDiscovery covers the disclosure of emails and a wide variety of other electronic documents relating to the litigation. Failure to do so can result in severe sanctions and very high compensation. To what extent are Japanese companies able to cope with these differences between the US and Japanese systems, and between paper and electronic document management methods? I am exploring this based on a questionnaire survey of companies.

More than 10 years of experience and know-how in education made me feel at ease

What I like about this graduate school is that I can study information security systematically and comprehensively, and I can acquire both expertise and broad knowledge at the same time. In addition, many of the fellow students are security professionals from a variety of industries (government, private sector, etc.). It is instructive to hear directly from them about how they deal with business challenges. In addition, ISS Square and SecCap, which are industry-university collaborations involving students from the University of Tokyo, Keio University, Chuo University and other universities, are attractive practical educational programmes. As a graduate school specialising in security for more than 10 years, IISEC has great experience and know-how in education and research. It gave me peace of mind and allowed me to concentrate on my studies.
