Examining effective security measures for the IoT, which faces a number of challenges such as resource shortages and mixed specifications.

I came here to become a security professional who can see the entire service

Since joining the company, I have worked in the information security department, where I am responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the system infrastructure. In recent years, my company has also started to consider the introduction of the IoT, including wearable devices. However, there is still an insufficient security design that covers the entire set of services, from building our own services to building services for other companies that we consult for. There is also a lack of consideration of security across all layers, including IoT devices. I would like to be a professional who can see the whole service from a security perspective. After studying information security in general at IISEC, I would like to explore specific areas such as device authentication.

Researching into the security of device authentication between the IoT and other systems

IoT devices are difficult to implement adequate information security measures due to a lack of resources on the device itself. There are also a diverse mix of IoT devices with different communication protocols and output logs. There are many challenges in the IoT that make it difficult to manage as part of a system. I have joined Prof. Okubo's lab, whose focus is "Security by Design", and I am working on effective security measures for such issues. My master's dissertation will look at device authentication between the IoT and other systems. After completing the course, I would like to continue practicing and strive to be called an expert in IoT security.

Personal development opportunities through front-line knowledge and human contacts

One of the attractive features of IISEC, is that students can learn front-line knowledge and new business perspective from leading figures in various fields, as they are the full-time or external lecturers here. You cannot easily learn these elsewhere even at industry seminars. Fellow students also come from a wide variety of backgrounds and specialisms, which makes the discussion of the exercises and everyday communication stimulating and enlightening. In addition, you will have the opportunity to develop yourself through deep connections with alumni. I believe that the knowledge, skills and contacts I have acquired here can be applied to all aspects of my work, including software development, devising and proposing services and solutions.
