Defend your organisation from threats with the appropriate security investment, measures, and audits, to control IT risk

Course Overview

This course allows students to acquire the specialised knowledge to identify information security risks and take appropriate actions, as well as the applied skills based on this knowledge. Our aim is to develop personnel who are able to take the initiative and act as leaders in their own organisations, where necessary making bold proposals to management. To use information effectively, it is also important to be able to protect and manage it appropriately, and practice risk management to ensure its use leads to good opportunities for the organisation. Therefore, in addition to risk analysis and countermeasure management, this course covers a wide range of subjects. These include psychology and human behaviour, how to encourage security behaviour, and how to build and practice effective education. This course is designed for students who are or wish to be engaged in risk management, governance, personnel development, education and training, new business development, information and communication technology, consulting, and so on, to acquire basic knowledge and the ability to apply it in practice.

Based on empirical analysis, students analyse and propose the challenges of managing and governing risks from incidents, events, or phenomena in organisational (corporate) activities, and summarise them in the style of an academic paper. Whilst the academic perspective is important, students write their dissertations from multiple perspectives, including empirical analysis in society and the practical value to organisations (companies).

Message from the Course Leader

Prof. Masayo Fujimoto
From external cyber-attacks to internal crimes, all organisations face increasingly diverse and complex information security risks, making it a key management issue. With the rapid development of information and communication technologies such as AI, IoT and 5G, we are approaching an era of major changes in socioeconomic activities. All organisations will find it difficult to survive unless they take risks and take on new challenges by trying to make use of these technologies. In order to realise this, we believe that the key to a successful growth strategy is to implement an information security strategy as a high priority, and to acquire and apply the necessary knowledge required to do so.
